Eye to Eye

Two arms, both working,
Two legs, one swollen,
My back is killing me,
But no bullet holes.

I am not dead.

I lay in this 14th Century Carmelite Monastery,
My world spins whenever I get up,
It is peaceful outside my summer window,
Pigeons softly cooing next to this quiet town of Hitchin.

Is this where I die?
I am wide awake.

Terrified,
I face my inner demons.

A prisoner of my own mind,
Wrestling with my emotions,

Again…
